Penduline tit eclipsed by blue tit!

The long-staying penduline tit at Stodmarsh was certainly worth a visit so I made my way down there today. It was certainly present for a lot of the time but it kept to the back of the reedbed and was often obscured by the reeds in front. It looks like a bandit with its mask. Pretty bird.

On the other hand, a very colourful blue tit came fairly close and performed on the reedmace.

  1. I just discovered your blog by chance!
Quite nice pics you've published here!
I see you went to Gambia a couple of times... That rings a very strong 'African bell' in my soul!!
We have lived in SA for 16 years and loved every minute of it.
Great shot you brought back... I wish I could go back to Africa when I see your birds!!
Also, I see you swapped Nikon for Canon...
Something you didn't like about Nikon??
It happens that sometimes I wonder if I did the right choice...
    Anyway, congrats for this blog!
    Cheers Phil!

    1. Hi, Noushka and thanks for your very kind comments. I used Nikon for 20 years and was very happy. When I decided to start photographing birds in 2006 only Canon had a range of long lenses with image stabilisation. I had only a handful of old Nikon lenses and both Canon and Nikon are very reliable makes, so I had no hesitation in getting Canon. I've been using a 7D for over 3 years and it is still a very good camera.
Do you not live in Africa now then?
      Regards,
      Phil.
